Dr. Yael Barash Harman

Yael Herman is the Director of Technology and Renewable Energy at the Office of the Chief Scientist in the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, where she also serves as Head of Research and Development for the unit.

Prior to joining the Ministry, Yael was a co-founder of BioPetroClean, an Israeli startup specializing in industrial wastewater solutions. She brings an entrepreneurial approach to public service and consistently seeks innovative solutions to complex challenges and opportunities. In the past, she successfully led several transformational projects that have helped reshape Israel’s energy landscape, including the flagship AgriPV project, waste-to-energy (hydrogen) initiatives, and demand response programs.

Between 2022 and 2024, she served as Israel’s Energy Attaché to Germany, leading the Israeli side of the German-Israeli partnership on energy and cyber cooperation. Her unique combination of scientific expertise, entrepreneurial vision, and policy experience places her at the forefront of Israel’s energy transition and innovation efforts.

Yael holds a PhD in Environmental Policy, an MBA, and a Master’s degree in Ecology and Microbiology.
