H.E. Ambassador Steffen Seibert

The Ambassador of Germany

Born 1960 in Munich, Steffen Seibert grew up in Stuttgart and Hanover.
He finished school in 1979 with secondary school diploma (Abitur) at Tellkampfschule, Hanover.
After his civilian service in geriatric care in Hanover, 1979/80, he studied History, Literature and Public Law at Hamburg University and London School of Economics and Political Science between 1981 and 1987,  graduating with a M.A. from Hamburg University („very good“).
In 1988/89 he became a journalism trainee at ZDF German Television (public service broadcaster). Between 1989 and 2010 he worked for ZDF as reporter, foreign correspondent (USA), editor and evening news achorman.
In 2010 he was appointed Spokesman of the Federal Government and Chancellor Angela Merkel and Head of the Federal Government Press and Information Office, a position he held until 2021.
Since 9 August 2022 he has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the State of Israel.
Steffen Seibert is married to Sophia Gundelach; they have three children. .
